The WAYNE GALE VARIETY HOUR ep 16: Summer 2013 Movie Preview!
DANNO KLONOWSKI is a cartoonist and podcaster. MATT RISNES is a noted film blogger and podcast guest. They have been friends for nearly 20 years and like talking about stuff at length and in-depth. In the sixteenth episode, along with some thoughts by listener ANDY LUNN, Matt and Danno give their thoughts and predictions on the already upon-us SUMMER OF FILM 2013!!!
But right off the bat we open with some Viewer Mail, including a show suggestion we WILL do by MARK CARROLL, along with his accurate theory on THE LORDS OF SALEM, and then more TLOS talkby 3rd host RAFE GUTTMAN, which of course will blow your mind– oh, and we discussed TLOS at length last episode, so that’s what’sthat’s all about.
Then it’s onto One-Hitters: Matt did a bit of his own homework at Danno’s bequest and watched the streaming-on-Netflix-so-you-can-decide-for-yourself about their split call on IRON SKY (to answer Matt’s question of “WHO IS THIS MOVIE FOR?” Answer: Danno). Matt re-evaluates DJANGO UNCHAINED and reviews PAIN & GAIN. Then Danno, having not seen UNFORGIVEN since he was a snot-nosed teen and THE DEVILS REJECTS since its opening day–and DETESTED them both!!!–reevaluates them years later which leads into a chat about Mr. Eastwood. Then we have a vehement chat about Zack Braff’s KICKSTARTER, and finally, with less much less enthusiasm, we discuss a few other things.
After the best break song ever, Danno and Matt bust into: THE SUMMER 2013 MOVIE PREVIEW!!! After a SPOILER-IFFIC discussion of IRON MAN 3 (which runs from about 54:00 to about 1:22:00 if you want to skip–that’s right, 30 minutes on IRON MAN 3!!!), Matt breaks down the summer films by release date, whereas Danno had gone to the trouble of ranking summer films. Either way, lots of films are discussed, including: WORLD WAR Z, THE WORLD’S END, THE LONE RANGER, PACIFIC RIM,ELYSIUM, MAN OF STEEL, STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS, FAST 6, KICK-ASS 2, THE WOLVERINE, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, RIDDICK, ALAN PARTRIDGE IS IN ALPHA PAPA, and many, many, many more.

When I heard that a Minneapolis tattoo parlor was offering $50-$100 Star Wars tattoos in honor of “May The 4th Be With You,” I immediately said “Danno’s gonna get one.”

For the second Ink Panthers Book Club, we read George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four. Lots and lots of talk about how messed up our present day society is, and how much of an unimaginable dystopia it would seem to someone living back, in say, 1984.
Think I’ll begin redrawing one STUDCITY character a day (created circa 1989-90). I’ll post’em on here. $10 each ($12 w/postage) and have them at Springcon!

BUT FIRST! We open with some grousing about our unpaid second jobs as Internet Content Providers. Also: loudly discussing hot-button political issues of the day in public places and why that’s probably a bad idea. THE DEATH of ARNOLD THE SUPER CARDINAL pt 2
PREVIOUSLY in ARNOLD THE SUPER CARDINAL:
On the day of his wedding, JOSS ARNOLDTON aka ARNOLD THE SUPER CARDINAL, skipped out at the last second to battle KILLEMALL, a mysterious menace from outer space. In the end, Arnold and Killemall beat each other to death.
ARNOLD awoke to find himself outside the pearly gates of heaven, where he was judged by ST PETER. But despite all he’s done, when it comes right down to it Arnold is morally kinda a bad egg, so he is sentenced to spend eternity in hell. Arnold, not happy with this decision, files for an appeal with the BIG MAN himself, which he’s granted. The appeal, however, won’t occur for 3 days–3 days Arnold will spend in the deepest, darkest, most cruel bowels of HELL!!!
